Hike 12/52: Huntington Beach Dog Beach
1.6 Mile out & back ( we walked 0.9 mile)
Parking: Free on the residential streets or paid meter parking on PCH.
Now I’m not sure if this will really count, but I’m gonna do it anyway. I’d been putting off doing some hikes recently with being a bit busy with personal chefing and getting out and shooting 2-3 times I week I’ll be honest I’d slacked, the hot muggy weather didn’t make it hard to say no either and put things off.
Bad Ben!!! Bad.
Last week I had to genius idea on how to beat the heat. I would take my girlfriend and our best bud, Smedley Pork, to dog beach. I’d seen it on all trails and thought it’s got to count. Pork loves the park, beaches and anywhere he can get to by car.
We showed up to the beach on a bright and sunny morning. Even though it was early you could already feel the warmth creeping up. We parked along PCH where there’s paid parking. The rates weren’t bad and only cost a $1.50 an hour I want to say. Or if you have a dog, or yourself, that can walk farther then there’s free parking among the blocks farther from the beach, about 3 blocks in and you’ll just have to hunt for anything free.
We got right down to the sand and Pork was in heaven. There weren’t to many people out so it was the perfect day to be on the beach. We only walked about half a mile one direction before turning around. Smedley being an English Bulldog we didn’t want him to die of a heath stroke and have to lug his body to far back to the van. He maybe small but he’s a big sack of meat.
The sky was clear & the water a warm inviting blue. Though this may be an unconventional 52 Hike Challenge trail it was the most fun I’d had in a mile. Smedley ran his heart out, played in the water and watched life go one. I wish I could take him on longer walks but these little ones are awesome enough!
On the way back to the car my girlfriend spotted this baby black crab.
This walk was a lot of fun & was fun to share with a four legged friend.
